Of War and Ruin review

January 19, 2025 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: reviews

Another great entry in the series, full of action, character development, and world building. If you liked the previous novels, you'll like this one, though it's maybe a bit too long for its own good. This is a gigantic novel. It's over 1000 pages, and the middle bit can drag. The last 10% has a huge payoff, especially for a book in the middle of a series, but I think it could have been edited a little more tightly or maybe split into 2 books. Before the very end of the novel when the action picked up, I was starting to feel like it would never end.

Nonetheless, this is a good entry in the series and shows a steady, noticeable improvement over the earlier books. The prose here won't blow anyone away, but it's serviceable and this is a fun classic fantasy story.
