A few months ago I gave my thoughts on Grim Dawn after briefly revisiting it following the Diablo 4 Open Beta. I've now finally gone and finished it, and I'm still impressed.
Grim Dawn is in many ways a pretty standard ARPG. There's a ton of loot, a bunch of different biomes, and quests are separated into clear acts, each with its own hub location. Where it really shines is in the class system. There are a bunch of different classes, all with a good chunk of skills, but the cool thing about Grim Dawn is that you can actually pick two classes and put points into skills in both to make some really unique classes.
I chose Shaman and Arcanist for my classes, which is the closest thing to a Druid build. I focused on Lightning and Ice skills, and had a really powerful mix of summoned ice/lightning tornadoes, a flash freeze skill, and a few passives to keep me protected.
I played on normal difficulty, and while I had some tense moments I never really struggled, so I think I might have been a little more engaged if I played on one of the harder modes. The game did become a bit of a cakewalk at some points. That said, I still had a great time with the 22-ish hours it took me to beat the main story. If you're looking for an ARPG but don't want to shell out $70+ for Diablo 4, Grim Dawn may be your best bet.
I do own both DLC packs, and according to HowLongToBeat they add on another 15-17 hours of content. I'm putting the game on the backburner for now to focus on other games, but I'll definitely pick it back up and tackle the DLC at some point.
