Yakuza 5

March 18, 2023 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Yakuza 5 continues the Yakuza series, and is another good entry. Being the 6th game in the series chronologically, if you've made it this far you know what you're in for.

Yakuza 5 massively expands the playable area, with 5 distinct cities to play in and adding Haruka as a playable character along the 4 from Yakuza 4. Her segment is a huge departure for the series, as gameplay consists not of combat, but almost entirely of a rhythm game. It's fun, but a bit strange to make it so prevalent in the main story. I feel Haruka's segment would've worked better through cutscenes.

Yakuza 5 is a giant game, with a ton of stuff to do. It's packed with content. By the time I got to it, I was really only interested in the main story. But if you're the type of player to 100% these games there's a lot for you here.

Verdict: Finished

Part of the Game Library Project
