I've been a big fan of the Total War games for a long time, and I admit I've been disappointed by their focus lately. I like Warhammer, but the Three Kingdoms and Attila settings didn't interest me, and Rome is a little overdone. What I really want is Medieval 3, but as that doesn't seem like it's on the horizon, the Bronze Age Pharaoh is a nice consolation prize and still of interest to me.
Pharaoh release din a really rough state, but the Dynasties update just came out and brought it up to par with the other historical TW games. I've played the tutorial and started a campaign as Ramesses III of Egypt. The battles are really fun, as always, and the game looks great. By definition, the Bronze Age doesn't have incredible unit variation, but there's enough of a mix just from what I've seen to keep it interesting. Warhammer III this is not, though.
Campaign management remains pretty simple. The focus of the series is definitely on the battles, but there are some cool mechanics around Deities. If you've played a recent TW game, nothing will surprise you though.
If you've played Warhammer to death or just want something historical, Pharaoh with the Dynasties update is probably up there among the best historical TW games.
Verdict: Endless
