I grew up during the peak of Flash games. At school we would always play Boxhead, Thing Thing, Sniper games, Trials, Line Rider, and so many more. There were hundreds of fun games that were unfortunately almost entirely taken over by mobile games, which were quickly monetized and mostly ruined. One series I never played was the Sword & Sandals series, for some reason. A recent Humble Bundle form Armor Games had a bunch of classic Flash games that have been ported to Steam, so I took a chance on it.
It's fun. It has all the hallmarks of Flash RPGs: simple gameplay, a humorous story, some grindy mechanics and nothing too deep. I've played for an hour and a half and am just about done 1 of the game's 5 chapters. It doesn't have the same magic I felt when playing Flash games as a kid, but I don't think I'm ever going to recreate that feeling. Looking at these games outside of the context of when I originally played them definitely makes them lose a bit of their luster. But it's still a fun RPG experience and a breath of fresh air from modern games that find ways to nickel and dime you to death.
I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this one as I'm not sure the gameplay evolves too much past what I've seen, but for now it's a fun little diversion.
Verdict: Timewaster
