I grew up at the tail-end of the PS1's lifespan, and was fortunate enough to have parents that would buy games for my brother and I every so often. We had the PS1 Spyro trilogy, and I have fond memories of collecting gems and headbutting bad guys,
but most of my fondness is for the first game. That said, when the Re-Ignited trilogy was announced, I was really excited to revisit these games.
Spyro 2 is a good game. It builds upon the first game in pretty much every way - levels are larger and better-designed, there are more gameplay mechanics, more collectibles. The flying levels return, and I still haven't got the hang of them. I do have my nitpicks with the remaster: the graphics are a little too busy, level routes aren't as clear as they were in the original games. The game is easy; it is, after all, made for children. That hasn't changed in the remaster. I found myself sort of passively playing through the levels, with no real challenge or motivation to try and complete the optional challenges. Some games, I guess, are better left as memories. I may go back and finish Spyro 2 when I'm in more of a 3D Platformer mood, but for now it's on the backburner.
Verdict: Maybe Revisit
