Samurai Warriors 5 is part of the popular Warriors series of musou games, which most people are familiar with through Dynasty Warriors. Samurai Warriors keeps the same hack and slash gameplay, set in Japan's Sengoku period. I generally like these games, but it's been quite a while since I've played one. I've seen SW5 recommended as one to get back into the genre, so I jumped in.
Gameplay is what you'd expect. It's fun, there's a good amount of mechanics, and there's a good amount of weapons and skills to customize your characters with. These games are never going to reinvent the wheel and they aren't trying to. But if you're just trying to relax and destroy hundreds of grunts for a few hours they're perfect. My biggest problem with this genre is that it always ends up getting stale. That's probably going to be the case for me here too, but I think there's enough variety here for me to keep it installed as a good timewaster game.
Verdict: Timewaster
