As a history buff and fan of historical fiction, I really enjoyed Pendragon Rising. You play as Arthur, bastard son of Uther, as you rise to eventually take the kingdom. Not really a game, and not a visual novel, Pendragon Rising is a choose your own adventure game.

That means there's a lot of reading. The game boasts a 112k word script, and while making choices will lock you out of seeing a good chunk of it, this is very much a game made for people who like to read. If you can't handle reading without pictures to move the story along, don't bother with this. But if you're a fan of CYOA and Arthur specifically, you'll probably really enjoy this one.
