Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You

March 14, 2023 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You is a visual novel/interactive fiction game about the dangers of government overreach and the increasing amount of surveillance we deal with every day. Subtly, you play as a member of Big Brother, and are tasked with investigating citizens to find out who committed a terrorist attack.

I really enjoy these games where you comb through fake computers, web pages, and stuff like that. In this one you feel like a detective, and slowly piece together evidence while making impactful choices. To be honest, I could really take or leave the politics and the message, just like in most games. But this game gets its message across pretty well, and doesn't resort to too much heavy-handedness. Too often I think games with overt political and social themes can kind of get lost in their own message and forget that they're a game, and this one does a good job avoiding that.

Verdict: Finished
