Octopath Traveler II

September 15, 2024 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Octopath Traveler II has been in my backlog for a long time after I picked it up absurdly cheap in an increasingly rare Gamestop sale. I was originally interested in the first game, but after reading that the second fixes many of its problems and has no connection story-wise, I decided to just hop into this one. The length put me off for a while, but I've got some time spend before the releases of the DQ3 remake and Ys X.

I started with Ochette, the Hunter. Combat is fun so far, and the Break system is intuitive. I really like the quality of life features in most of these newer JRPGs: the ability to speed up battles makes grinding for levels a breeze. I'm not sure how I ever played some older games on original hardware.

Graphically, I'm a big fan of the HD-2D style. I know some people are tired of it and think there's too much bloom, but I haven't played a ton of this style and really like it.

Interested to meet more characters and really dive into this one.

Verdict: Keep Playing
