Need for Speed: Payback

March 18, 2023 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

I love a good arcade racer, but with NFS's shaky recent track record I was a little hesitant with this one. It came out as a PS Plus monthly freebie, so I gave it a try.

I always enjoy a menu/event based racing game more than an open world, but Payback's open world wasn't bad. The racing is really fun, which is the most important thing in these games. The story is really dumb, and the dialogue sucks, but if you can get past that there's a good racing game here. Collecting cars and exploring the map are a good time, and the cop chases are well-done and not too annoying.

In a world where arcade racers seem few and far between, Payback is worth a shot and goes on sale for pretty cheap every so often.

Verdict: Finished
