The Metro series has been in my backlog for a hell of a long time. For some reason I've just never gotten around to playing the series, despite it being so highly praised and pretty short, which is a big positive these days.
Metro 2033 drips atmosphere. It's set in a post-apocalyptic Russian subway system and it's creepy and dark and grim without being outright horror, at least not yet. The shooting mechanics feel just 'okay' - this is a game originally from 2020 after all - but they are serviceable. Aiming is a little clunky. This is not Call of Duty. It's a little janky. But it's carried so heavily by the atmosphere and story that it's worth a play, especially for how dirt cheap it goes these days.
For now, I plan to keep playing this one, and eventually the rest of the series. I'm not 100% sold on it yet - the story and atmosphere will end up making or breaking the series for me - but I've enjoyed the hour or so I've played so far.
Verdict: Keep Playing
