Kaze and the Wild Masks is a pure stage-based 2D platformer, a genre I admittedly have little recent experience with. I've played Rayman Legends and Origins, and the Crash Bandicoot remasters, and of course some Mario games, but that's about it.
Kaze seems like it can hang up there with the best of them. It's most closely inspired by Donkey Kong Country, you collect coins throughout the level that spell out KAZE, each level has a couple bonus stages and lots of collectible gems. Very light on story, but that's never been the focus in this genre. It's done a great job of slowly introducing mechanics and then ramping up the difficulty throughout each stage to force you to explore those mechanics. I am not the best at these types of games - I can already see myself getting a little frustrated - but for now Kaze seems likes a great pickup and I see why it gets recommend whenever there's a sale on.
Verdict: Play Later
