Microsoft recently announced that Forza Horizon 4 is being delisted later this year, and as a result they've put the game on a massive sale. I was able to pick up the Ultimate edition for $20. I've played the game in the past on a Game Pass trial, but I felt the time was right to finally own it.
FH4 is a great game. The map is varied, and the seasons mechanic introduces a ton of variety to the races. The cars look and feel incredible, and there's a huge variety in both them and the race types. One thing I do feel could have been improved is the absolute avalanche of cars the game gives you, which is exasperated by the DLC I bought. My fault, I know, but it's a little disappointing to be 2 hours into the game with over 100 cars in my garage. It ruins all since of progression, but that's ok since this is a racing game with only the barest thread of a story.
This game is definitely way more on the 'arcade' side of the sim-arcade spectrum. It feels a lot like DIRT 5. The cars are a little slippery, and there's no real damage model that affects performance. I don't have a wheel to try, but I've heard it's not great. Sim racers, this one's not for you.
Verdict: Timewaster
