Final Fantasy XVI

June 25, 2023 - Reading time: 2 minutes - Category: game library project

I'm not normally one to pick up games on release day. especially not games that cost $70. After I played the FF16 demo though, I knew I had to pick this one up. I'm about 5 hours into the main game, so 7 total including the demo, and while the game so far hasn't quite hit the levels of the demo, I'm still having a great time.

The presentation is top notch. The voice acting is great, the game looks fantastic, and the music is perfect. Combat is a little button-mashy for me so far, but I'm still figuring out all the mechanics and I definitely see how it can open up a smore abilities are unlocked.

The main story is keeping me intrigued for sure, but the side quests to this point are a bit dull. Every sidequest so far has been a fetch quest, which is disappointing. The crafting/gear upgrades are also on the simple side.

All in all, one of the better RPGs I've played in recent years and definitely one I'm going to finish up.

Verdict: Keep Playing
