Matt Roszak just knows how to make fun video games. His Epic Battle Fantasy series is some of the most pure, fun, distilled turn-based RPG goodness on the market, and the 5th entry is no different,
EBF 5 is simply excellent. It's stuffed full with content, and has an excellent battle system. At its heart it's pretty basic turn based content, but there's some levels of complexity here that makes it non-trivial. There's no nonsense here: the game's map is compact and easy to explore, there aren't a ton of superfluous mechanics, and no time is wasted getting you into the game.
The game can run on a toaster, and still manages to look and sound great. It's definitely a simpler graphical style that wouldn't be totally out of place in a flash game (these games started as Flash), but it's not bad to look at at all. The $25 price tag is maybe a tiny bit steep for this type of game, but there are a few dozen hours of content here and the game's developed by one guy. It's worth it.
Verdict: Keep Playing
