Yeah, this isn't the Eiyuden game everyone's talking about. I've got that one on my wishlist. I'll get it eventually. This one was only $5 and seems to have recovered from its lukewarm initial release.
This game, a prequel of sorts to the new Hundred Heroes game, is a metroidvania. I've played about an hour, and the graphics are fantastic and it runs well, but I can tell it's a little light on the gameplay side of things. There's only one button to attack (so far) and it feels a little floaty. I don't have any movement mechanics unlocked either, just a jump. Hopefully more of those open up later.
The game is broken up into main quests and side quests, which are either shop quests or resident quests. Shop quests built up your town's amenities and resident quests are simple tasks assigned to you by NPCs (kill X thing, gather Y item). It's functional if not revolutionary. You can find quests on the bulletin board, but you have to actually visit the NPC to accept the quest and turn it in. Lame. Just let me accept it and turn it in at the board. Just a small QOL thing I would've liked.
I'm liking the game so far, and from I've read it doesn't overstay its welcome. I'll probably keep playing it, but if the gameplay mechanics don't open up I'll probably end up dropping it.
Verdict: Keep Playing
