Dragon's Crown is a classic beat-em-up, and one I've actually played a few hours of back on the PS3 with my friend. I never owned it back then, but I recently picked up the PS4 version dirt cheap and decided to give it a try.
Like all Vanillaware games, Dragon's Crown is probably most notable for its graphics. The spritework is incredible, the lighting looks fantastic, and it's truly a timeless look. If you told me this game came out this year and not originally in 2013 I'd believe you.
The gameplay is pretty standard beatemup fare. It works well and is fun, but I'm honestly pretty bad at these games. I always just button mash. And it's definitely more fun in co-op, but the game has a cool mechanics to bring along AI companions.
I'm in the middle of a couple big RPGs - DQ8 and I'll be starting FF7 Remake soon - so I think I need a shorter, more 'turn brain off' type of game mixed in, and this one hits the spot.
Update: After playing for about 5 hours, the repetitiveness of the gameplay is making it wear a bit thin. I'm putting this one in the "Revisit" category. I think this would would be a lot more fun with friends. Running through the levels over and over, pretty as they are, gets a little old.
Verdict: Maybe Revisit
