Crusader Kings 2

July 21, 2023 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Crusader Kings 2 is maybe my favorite game of all time. I'm a big history fan, especially the Medieval period, and I like strategy games, so CK2 ticks pretty much all my boxes. It's a great feeling taking a minor dynasty that rules one county and turning them into a huge world power.

After more than a decade of DLC releases, there is a ton of content in the game, covering all of Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. You can play as basically any historical leader from 769 - 1453, any culture, any religion. While there are no clear-cut goals, there's a ton of potential for emergent storytelling: characters have friends and rivals, lovers and bitter heartbreak. There are hundreds of events and thousands of hours of gameplay in the base game, not even mentioning the many full-conversion mods like the excellent Game of Thrones mod.

Verdict: Endless
