Civilization V

August 26, 2023 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Civilization V is a special game for me. It's the last boxed PC game I ever bought, and the game that made me make a steam account. The box just had a slip in it with the Steam key. It's also, maybe, the best turn based strategy game ever made.I enjoy Civ 6, but don't really jive with the art style and the added complexity of the Districts mechanic can make games drag on and get tedious with micromanagement. Civ 5 is a step back in complexity while retaining everything that makes the series fun. Games can be finished in just a couple hours, and the two expansions add a ton of civs and interesting religion and culture mechanics. The more realistic art fits with the series better, too.

Endless replayability and customization options along with a ton of great mods makes this one of the better games I've ever played, and the hundreds of hours I have logged is proof.

Verdict: Timeless
