Chivalry and its sequel Chivalry 2 tick a lot of boxes on my "things I like in a game". A medieval combat simulator with a ton of weapons? Count me in. I have vague memories of the first game, having it played it back in 2012 and 2013. I wasn't great at it, back then and to this day I'm mostly a controller gamer, and I had Chiv 1 on PC.
Even back then the game was full of diehards who knew how to exploit every mechanic, and I usually got destroyed. It was still great fun though, and trying out all the different weapons and getting a feel for the intricate mechanics was a blast.
Chivalry 2 hit the PlayStation 5 back in 2021 and it was an instant buy for me. Having native controller support and being able to play against (at least some) other people also using controllers levelled the playing field quite a bit, and I was able to have a lot more success with the second game. Mechanics were refined, and every weapon could be viable with the right user. I haven't played in a while so I'm sure the playerbase has fallen off, but if you're looking for a medieval combat simulator that's a bit less hardcore than Mordhau, Chivalry 2 is really your best and only option.
Verdict: Endless/Multiplayer only
