Artifact Adventure Gaiden DX

January 7, 2023 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Artifact Adventure Gaiden DX has the honor of being the first game played for my Game Library Project, where I attempt to play every game in my library and share my thoughts.

Artifact Adventure Gaiden DX is an open world RPG stylized like a Gameboy Color game. You assemble a party of 3 NPCs and venture forth into the overworld, fighting monsters, completing quests, and getting new equipment. I played for roughly 30 minutes and think I got the gist of the game; combat is a little button-mashy and very simple. It's reminiscent of Ys 1 & 2's bump combat. The characters and writing seem charming enough but I believe the game was originally released in Japanese and the translation seems a bit amateur.

I liked this game well enough, but not well enough to keep it on my "must play" list.

Verdict: Maybe Revisit
