A Way Out is a co-op only adventure/puzzle game about two men breaking out of prison. It's definitely a unique experience; beyond being co-op only, the game is also in splitscreen almost 100% of the time, so you can always see exactly what your partner is doing.
Gameplay consists of pretty simple puzzles and quicktime events, the hook here is that pretty much every single puzzle in the game requires cooperation - this game is 2-player in every sense of the word. The gameplay mostly stays out of its own way to allow the story to shine through: nothing here is lighting the world on fire. But it is a cool story, told in a unique way, and my brother and I are definitely going to finish it and see where it goes.
I think the $30 MSRP is a little steep for what HowLongtoBeat claims is a roughly 6 hour game, but that's not taking into account that the second player doesn't need to own the game, so friends can split the cost. I bought the game on sale for $6, a more than fair price, and my brother was able to just download the demo and can play the full game with me. The only downside on his end is that he can't unlock any Trophies, a small price to pay really.
A Way Out is the studio's second effort after the unique Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, and they've further refined this formula in the co-op game It Takes Too, which I haven't played but understand to be a much more substantial and fleshed out game compared to A Way Out.
Verdict: Keep Playing
